Many Puerto Rican artists, such as Farruko and Pedro Capo, used the opportunity to ask Governor Ricardo Rosselló to resign. Billboard recently reported that a nearly 900-page private group chat between Rosselló and several associates in his executive team was published, generating a wave of protests and doubts about decisions by the government.
While all of these memorable and important moments were taking place on Univision’s live telecast, Billboard was at the media room catching more action backstage.
Here are four things you did not see on TV during the 2019 Premios Juventud awards:
Tini & Sebastian Yatra giving everyone relationship goals
Before the show, new Latin couple Sebastian Yatra and Tini walked the carpet together for the first time. The adorable pair gave interviews holding hands, hugging, singing, and dancing together, showing off the beautiful chemistry they have.
On the red carpet, rising urban artist Lyanno, who will be J Balvin’s opening act during his Arcoiris tour, wore a t-shirt and cap with the Puerto Rican flag in black and white. “I wanted to dedicate it to Puerto Rico because I’m sad with everything that’s happening in Puerto Rico,” he tells Billboard. “It's very outrageous and we should not have a person like that as our leader. I wanted to dedicate my first PJ awards to my country."
Lunay wins his first-ever PJ award
Our latest Latin Artist on the Rise, Lunay won his first-ever Premios Juventud award backstage after his performance of “Soltera” with Daddy Yankee. He nabbed the award for “on the rise camino a la fama,” also dedicating his special moment to his island. “We’re here for peace and for you to resign,” he said to Puerto Rico’s governor.
