Amon Amarth’s Johan Hegg and Wife Hosting Ukrainian Refugees

Amon Amarth frontman Johan Hegg and his wife are hosting Ukrainian refugees fleeing their homeland. Hegg recently shared the information on Robb Flynn's No Fuckin' Regrets podcast.

“Obviously what’s happening in Ukraine is horrible," he says (as transcribed by The Pit). "Me and my wife, we took in a Ukrainian family. We have two Ukrainian women and their children living with us. A lot of people in Sweden have been doing that. It needs to be done. Over 10 million people in Ukraine are refugees, and almost 4 million of them are refugees in Europe now. So obviously they need somewhere to stay.”

Additionally, he's also been raising money for Ukraine by auctioning off rare merchandise. Hegg and his wife decided to donate the proceeds from the recent auctions  to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Doctors Without Borders. They also decided to donate to the National Fund for Animals Welfare because "a lot of pets and farm animals are suffering right now and also need our help.”

This is the latest stand the Viking metal frontman has made against Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Last month, Hegg boycotted UFC for allowing Russian fighters to compete. He explained his decision in a series of Tweets, his main argument being "athletes represent their country and regime. Allowing Russian fighters to compete is to support Putin.”
