Two National Guard Members Removed from Capitol Duty Due to Possible Ties to Extremist Groups

With under 24 hours until the inauguration of Joe Biden, two Army National Guard members have been removed from duty. CNN reports the removal was part of a vetting process to ensure troops do not have ties to extremist groups.

The two National Guard members have not been identified or what led to their removal, however, there are currently 25,000 National Guard troops throughout Washington DC.

Much of the US Capitol has been shut down following the deadly riot and the troops are there to ensure safety.

“Due to operational security, we do not discuss the process nor the outcome of the vetting process for military members supporting the inauguration,” a National Guard rep stated to press.

Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller has also shared a statement toward the vetting process.

“As is normal for military support to large security events, the Department will vet National Guardsmen who are in Washington, DC. While we have no intelligence indicating an insider threat, we are leaving no stone unturned in securing the capital,” Miller wrote. “This type of vetting often takes place by law enforcement for significant security events. However, in this case the scope of military participation is unique.”
