Berchelt was out cold for a few minutes. He was eventually able to sit and stand with assistance. Berchelt was taken to a hospital afterward, and Top Rank president Todd DuBoef said that he underwent a CT scan that came back clear.
In the end, Valdez didn’t just walk away with an upset victory, he walked away with the WBC World Super Feather Title.
“There’s nothing better in life than proving people wrong,” said Valdez. My idols doubted me. Boxing analysts doubted me. They said Berchelt was going to knock me out. I have a message to everybody: Don’t’ let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do.”
For now, Valdez will soak in his victory before seeing what’s next.
