Actor Gregory Sierra, who is best known for his roles as “Julio Fuentes” on the Redd Foxx famed Sanford and Son and Sgt. Miguel “Chano” Amanguale on Barney Miller, passed away on January 4 in Leguna Woods, California. Sierra was 83 years old.

The Puerto Rican, New York-born actor found his fame as Fred Sanford’s next-door neighbor in Sanford Arms. Sierra’s later career followed with law enforcement roles on shows such as Miami Vice, Murder, She Wrote, Hill Street Blues, and MacGyver.

Sierra is survived by his wife, Helene.
