In the latest episode of "You Should Know," Billboard sits down with Chartbreaker Ingrid Andress to find out what the latest show she binge-watched was, who her dream collaborations would be with, and what inspired her song “More Hearts Than Mine.”
Andress, who grew up in Highland's Ranch, Colorado, tells Billboard that her very first job was working at Baskin-Robbins. “I actually used to take the pink spoons and like eat the cookie dough out of the cookie dough ice cream and people would get so mad,” she recalls. “They'd be like, ‘I thought I ordered cookie dough ice cream,’ and it was vanilla.”
She also reveals that the first place she ever performed at was at a songwriters round in Nashville. “I was so nervous because I had never played my songs for people and this was the first time that I was going to have to get them out there,” she confesses. “It's really vulnerable because you're sharing your stories and hoping that people listen to them and like them. But...I loved it. It was a great experience."
Asked what the latest television show she binge-watched was, she reveals that it was Modern Love, adding that it’s a surprising answer for her to be giving since she hates romance. “But I was not ready for that,” she admits. “I was like a waterfall…I loved it, but I was not ready.”
As for who her dream collaborators would be, Andress says that she is a huge Chance the Rapper fan, although they do very different things when it comes to music. She also names Ed Sheeran, noting that he is a great songwriter and that she admires the way he tells stories through his songs.
In the interview, Andress opens up about her song “More Hearts Than Mine,” as well, stating that everything she writes is based upon something that she has experienced.
“It's about that moment where you're having to decide if this person that you're with is ready to meet your family because it's just such a big next step,” she says of the track. “I hadn't heard a song that tells that story yet…it was around the holidays and I was kind of torn on whether or not to bring this guy back to meet my family because…there are six people in my family and that's a lot of hearts to break. So, just gotta be careful.”
