Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and the National’s Aaron Dessner, the brains behind Wisconsin’s annual Eaux Claires festival, threw a different kind music event at Funkhaus in Berlin this past weekend. The collaborative two-day event — which was co-conceived by Aaron’s brother Bryce, Gayngs’ Ryan Olson, La Blogotheque filmmaker Vincent Moon, conductor André De Ridder, Brandon Reid, and Berlin’s Michelberger Hotel — featured more than 80 artists including Nils Frahm, Mouse On Mars, Erlend Øye, Woodkid, Boys Noize, Sam Amidon, Damien Rice, My Brightest Diamond, and members Alt-J, the Staves, and Wye Oak. There was no name for the event, which was preceded by a week rehearsals and, according to a statement from the organizers, was “about new material, collaborations, unique arrangements, and dissolving borders.” That ethos certainly shows based on the footage from the event.
