Royce Da 5’9 & Benny The Butcher Spit From The Pulpit In ‘Upside Down’ Video

Royce Da 5’9 has dropped off the third offering from his forthcoming album The Allegory, a Benny The Butcher-assisted tracked titled “Upside Down.” An accompanying Cricket-directed visual arrived with the single on Friday (February 7), which finds the two rappers spitting their bars from the pulpit.

With Detroit-bred singer Ashley Sorrell on the “Tom’s Diner”-sampling hook, Benny and Royce deliver lyrically dense verses.

“White kids graduate to relationships with a ton of perks/ Black kids, just aggravated and had to take a ton of Percs/ You come to church the 1st and 21st, and when it come to dirt/ Gucci ain’t the only ones puttin’ black faces on front of shirts,” the former Slaughterhouse MC spits.

The equally thought-provoking visual finds Royce acting as a pastor. After picking up the church collection dish, Royce is held up with a gun by one of the congregation members. The clip abruptly ends with a “To Be Continued” tagline.

“Upside Down” follows “I Don’t Age” and “Overcomer,” both of which will appear on The Allegory.

“I always like to shine a light on things that I see happening within our culture but this particular song was a chance for me to just spit some crazy shit next to my man Benny who represents a new generation of spitters,” Royce told Billboard about the track.

The Allegory is expected to arrive on February 21. Watch the “Upside Down” video up top.
