French Montana Says He Has More Hits Than Kendrick Lamar, Internet Determines That Is A Lie

French Montana made an interesting claim on Tuesday (April 21), tweeting he has more hits than Grammy Award-winning, Pulitzer Prize-having, multiplatinum-selling, Academy Award-nominated MC Kendrick Lamar — but in true Maury Povich fashion, the internet determined “that was a lie!”

“IF WE JUST TALKING ABOUT ANTHEMS, ME VS KENDRICK HIT FOR HIT!” he wrote in all caps. ” I BELIEVE I CAN GO NECK TO NECK !! I BEEN MAKING HITS FOR A LONG TIME ! IT AINT MY FAULT I BELIEVE IN MYSELF. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION ? HOW MANY TIMES I GOTTA PROVE MYSELF BEFORE I GET MINE.”

All it took was a quick Google search to compare notes. As DJ Booth so kindly pointed out, Montana has zero Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s, two Top 10 hits and 17 chart entries, while K. Dot has stacked two No. 1s on the Hot 100, eight Top 10 hits and 48 chart entries.

In terms of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Montana has four gold and nine platinum plaques compared to Lamar’s 15 golds and 24 platinums. DAMN. alone was certified triple platinum in 2018 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. “HUMBLE” subsequently became Lamar’s first No. 1 on the Hot 100.

Montana’s comments came after a recent interview he did with Complex where he said he might “outshine” Lamar if they were to do a festival together. The reactions to Montana’s claim vary on Twitter. While some people agree with his sentiment, they are quick to point out it doesn’t mean his music is higher quality or that he can sell more concert tickets.

Montana continued to entertain the notion with a series of tweets, explaining his attitude to apply to any rapper.

“I love kendrick!” he added. “that’s not just for kendrick that’s to anybody they put in front of me, and ask me that same question. what u want me to say lol ? It should be your attitude too.
If u think any less of yourself don’t blame it on the next person who don’t ! set it up.”

When someone noted he “got more hits than someone whose main focus isn’t making it,” Montana replied, “My point exactly! He is a different artist. I was just sayin I’ll win that part he is gonna win everything else but give me mines lol.”

He wrote in a separate tweet, “I was talking about hits we can go neck to neck not taking nothing away from him just standing [up] for myself is that still cool? Lol.”

Par for the course, Twitter erupted with reactions to Montana’s bold proclamation. Feast on some of the reactions below.
