Gorillaz and Little Simz unleash 'Garage Palace': Watch

Gorillaz and Little Simz have collaborated on a new track, ‘Garage Palace’, which Damon Albarn, who leads the virtual band alongside Jamie Hewlett, premiered through Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show on Tuesday.

The tune, which sits somewhere between baseline house, UK Funky, and grime, is accompanied by a video made by director Noah Harris, Gorillaz, Simz, and her frequent affiliate, illustrator McKay Felt.

The clip is clearly inspired by retro video games, and sees the artists- or rather their cartoon caricatures- taking on hordes of ghouls and freaks at a pace that matches the frantic rhythm of the music, clearing checkpoints along the way.

This isn’t the first time Gorillaz have dug deep into nostalgic territory. Earlier this year we reported on member 2D dropping a mix tape that veered between contemporary electronic heads such as Jacques Greene and Mount Kimbie, and the 80s synthdom of Tangerine Dream.

Meanwhile, in other news the outfit confirmed they were keen to press on with a new album while touring this year’s long player, ‘Humanz’, with Albarn explaining in an interview how “the idea of making new music and playing it live almost simultaneously” was particularly appealing. Oh, and they also have a new ten-part TV show due to arrive in the near future
